Growing up in the very early 70s was a magical, ...er, interesting time to enter into the mainstream world. It was one thing to be secure within the walls of your home, but the world outside was laced with blacklights, wah-wah pedals, and images right out of a bad acid trip. Remember this face:

Looking back, I realize just how FREAKY the big man was! Whew! My mind had captured fond, fuzzy memories of HR Pufnstuf, yet he's just a huge slob of an orange puffy thing in cheap, white cowboy boots.

Fragments of odd visions play in my head: The Krofft Superstars were my heroes, Babar was King, Fantasy Island was the forbidden show I snuck out to the family room to watch, and Speed Racer was my ideal big brother. No wonder society calls us the Generation X -- the generation without any cultural heroes. Oh yes, we had heroes, they were just fictional!

Q:

Does anyone remember a freaked-out cartoon called "Vegetable Soup"?
How about a "live-action" marionette show about these kids riding around on a spaceship called "Outerscope"?
I would love to hear more about these, as my memories of them are so very vague! Check out my attempt to gather some Vegetable Soup info onto one page: Vegetable Soup.
